Welcome back to another Austin Ice Bats weekly update! This past weekend brought excitement, emotion, and some serious on-ice action. Two familiar faces — Paul Wiese and Ashton Morin — returned to the lineup, and the energy they brought was contagious. Their return was short-lived but unforgettable. Both players played key roles, and the team couldn’t have been happier to have them back in the mix.

A Shootout Win and Strong Performances

The Ice Bats faced the New Mexico Ice Wolves in a hard-fought series. While the Bats dropped the overall matchup, Saturday’s game ended in thrilling fashion. The team took the win in a dramatic overtime shootout, with Paul Wiese netting the final goal to secure victory. Goaltender Michael Lane stood tall all night, turning away tough shots and keeping the Bats in the fight.

Throughout the weekend, Mason Manderfield impressed with his consistent energy and big-game moments, earning recognition as the NA3HL’s Third Star of the Week.

Farewell to Paul and Ashton

After a memorable weekend, the team was sad to see Paul and Ashton head back home. Both players left their mark on and off the ice. Their return brought a renewed sense of energy, leadership, and confidence that the locker room instantly felt. From pregame skates to postgame laughs, Paul and Ashton reminded everyone what it means to play for each other and enjoy every moment of the game.

Their presence lifted the team’s spirits and helped set the tone for the weekends ahead. Even though their time back with the Bats was short, it left a lasting impression on their teammates and coaches alike. The Ice Bats were truly thankful to share the ice with them again — even for just one weekend — and the door will always be open for their return.

Out in the Community

Off the ice, the Ice Bats are embracing the Austin spirit. Last week, the team joined the fun at Whitestone Brewery’s Trunk or Treat. This Friday, they’ll be part of their second Trunk or Treat of October at The Monarch in Cedar Park from 4–6 PM. Everyone is invited to stop by, meet the players, and celebrate Halloween with the Bats!

We love staying active in the community and connecting with fans beyond the rink. If you’d like to have the Ice Bats at your event, visit our Appearances tab and fill out the request form.

This weekend brings extra excitement, as Alternate Captain Jake Bamback will once again take on his former team, while Misha Levaniuk, a former Ice Bat, will be lining up on the other side wearing Rhino colors this season. It’s a matchup full of familiar faces and friendly competition.

After battling the Rhinos just two weekends ago, the Bats are ready for a rematch. The team is focused, hungry, and determined to build on their momentum. Each game is another chance to grow stronger, tighten up as a group, and keep pushing for more as a team.
