The Colony was alive this past Sunday, January 11. The Austin Ice Bats returned to home ice for their first game of 2026 with high energy and purpose. They faced the New Mexico Ice Wolves and delivered exactly what fans hoped to see.
From the opening puck drop, the pace was fast. The physical play stayed intense. Most importantly, the night ended with a 4–3 Austin Ice Bats victory.

Early on, the Ice Bats established control on home ice at Ice & Field at The Crossover in Cedar Park. The team moved the puck well and applied steady pressure in the offensive zone.
Meanwhile, the Ice Wolves pushed back and kept the game close. Because of this, the atmosphere inside The Bat Cave stayed electric. However, Austin stayed composed and capitalized on key moments.
Ultimately, the Ice Bats closed out the game with discipline and effort. As a result, they secured a hard-fought 4–3 win to open 2026.

Giving Back: Austin Ice Bats Visit Plain Elementary School
After returning to home ice, the Austin Ice Bats spent time giving back. The team visited Plain Elementary School to connect with students.
During the visit, players shared what growing up in hockey looks like. They talked about early mornings, long travel days, and teamwork. More importantly, they emphasized discipline and perseverance.
As a result, students gained a real look at life in the sport. At the same time, the visit reflected the organization’s commitment to community impact.
Road Ahead: Where to Watch the Austin Ice Bats Next
Following the home opener, the Ice Bats now head on the road. The team will not return to the Bat Cave at Ice & Field at The Crossover in Cedar Park until February 27–28.
However, fans can still tune in soon. On January 23–24, the Austin Ice Bats take on the Texas Brahmas in North Richland Hills. The same intensity will carry into this matchup.
